The Legacy of T.I.R.
The Story of Innovation and Excellence

T.I.R. (Trasformazione Italiana Resine) was founded in 1968 by Cesare Bagni, a visionary entrepreneur whose expertise in fiberglass and composite materials would revolutionize automotive engineering. After completing his military service, Bagni began working with fiberglass, initially crafting dodgems for amusement parks. His deep understanding of this material soon led him to an ambitious project: designing a fully fiberglass concept car for Fiat. This groundbreaking work caught the attention of none other than Enzo Ferrari.

Collaboration with Ferrari

Recognizing Bagni’s ingenuity, Ferrari proposed a partnership that would see T.I.R. provide bodywork for the marque’s most legendary vehicles. T.I.R. quickly became a crucial supplier for Ferrari’s Formula 1 program, fabricating lightweight and aerodynamically optimized body panels. During the golden era of Ferrari’s F1 dominance, T.I.R. played a key role in the development of race cars driven by legends such as Niki Lauda, Clay Regazzoni, and Gilles Villeneuve.

Beyond motorsport, T.I.R. was responsible for crafting body panels for some of Ferrari’s most iconic road-going models. These included the 712 Can-Am, 288 GTO, F40, and F50, as well as the 308, BB, Testarossa, 328, 348, and 355. Bagni’s company pushed the boundaries of lightweight construction, helping Ferrari achieve performance benchmarks that remain legendary to this day.
Cesare Bagni was not just a businessman; he was an innovator who understood the potential of advanced materials in high-performance automotive applications. His work with Ferrari solidified his reputation as a pioneer in composite materials, and his contributions extended beyond sports cars to the broader automotive and aerospace industries. In 1990, as a testament to his deep connection with Ferrari, Bagni acquired a Ferrari F40, a model that bore the very DNA of his craftsmanship. His F40 was uniquely customized by Ferrari, featuring an F50 gear knob, making it a one-of-a-kind piece in automotive history.

The Visionary

The End of an Era

Cesare Bagni passed away on September 3, 2014, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and excellence. His company, T.I.R., played a pivotal role in Ferrari’s success, and his influence can still be seen in the way modern supercars utilize composite materials for weight reduction and performance enhancement. The F40 he owned remained in his family’s possession until it was acquired by DK Engineering in 2018, showcasing the enduring legacy of his craftsmanship.
T.I.R.’s history is a testament to the power of innovation and the importance of craftsmanship in the automotive industry. From humble beginnings in fiberglass amusement rides to shaping some of the most revered supercars in history, T.I.R. and Cesare Bagni left an indelible mark on Ferrari and the world of high-performance vehicles. Today, enthusiasts and collectors still revere the work of T.I.R., ensuring that its legacy continues to inspire future generations of engineers and designers.
